As me and my Street Party pass made our way around The Street Social House, Michael Mina's upscale food court, I kept coming back to a single thought: The only good food I sampled at The Street was that not purchased using the Street Party pass. Little Lafa's Chicken Rice Plate wasn't just better than all of the things sampled with the pass; it felt like it was in an entirely different realm.
The Harissa-Grilled Chicken Rice Plate, at almost $17, had certainly better be good. For an additional $5 I added my choice of soft drink and mezzo (Za'atar Fries) and thought the offering ample enough for two. In this way, the pricing for this fast-casual fare actually seemed reasonable.
Little Lafa is the hawker stand operated by Michael Mina, a chef whom I'm not generally crazy about. This Rice Plate though, was very good and might be the only food I'd actually recommend out of all of The Street's offerings.
Using the Street Party pass, I came back another day to sample what it got me at Little Lafa. What it got me was a Chermoula-roasted Salmon Lafa which is something akin to an Indian-flavored taco. Neither I nor the person I shared it with cared for the flavors or textures of this dish, thus continuing the trend for the Street Pass (which I honestly cannot recommend).
Stick to Little Lafa's Chicken Rice Plate if you want to try the best thing at The Street. It was good even when not compared to every other thing I tried there. -

I'm still sad about the new, modernized International Marketplace, but I did enjoy their food court. Little Lafa is one of the food vendors at the inside food court. I decided to order their Mediterranean salmon, which was very good. It came with rice, veggies, and a garlic butter type of sauce. I liked this food place because it was one of the healthier option within the food court.

It's the least impressive of all the meals I've tried at The Street Food Hall HNL.
I had the beef kofta kebab combo meal. It comes with saffron rice and one mezze/side. I opted for the spicy avocado. The meat was previously prepared and are sitting under a heat lamp in the glass case. When it's ordered, it's warmed up on the griddle. The texture and taste definitely reflect that.
The meat is on a bed of yellow rice with a bunch of toppings. I don't know if there's a specific name for them, but there are pickled onions, fried shallots, diced tomatoes. All together, there is not any distinct flavor I can detect.
The side was half an avocado covered with some green sauce (I couldn't identify what it is, a radish slice, and a couple of mushrooms. It looks pretty, but it just tasted ok.
At about $20, it's definitely not something I'd get again. -

Little Lafa is hands down my favorite food stall in The Street. Any Lafa is good, but I probably order the chicken the most often. The flat bread is made fresh in the stall, it's soft and thin like a tortilla. I love all of the colorful toppings--dill, parsley, tomato, yogurt sauce, cucumber, picked onions and more. Each bite is full of texture and flavor. If you can take the heat, you definitely want to add some hot sauce, it's got a nice kick.
For veggie lovers, I also like the vegetarian plate. The char from the roasted cauliflower, the heat and creaminess from the spicy avocado, the pilaf and other sides, there is so much going on, I don't miss the meat. If you're at The Street, start with Little Lafa, it's the best! -

The culinary scene in Honolulu has changes so much over the years and mostly for the better. Just ten years ago you would have to go way out of your way to find a single place where you could get a vegan meal. Places like Little Lafa have helped change that problem.
This place is fantastic! Yes, it's in a mall (probably one of the nicest malls in America) but it's worth going here without question. If you're vegan you know the struggle, finding a place to eat when traveling that can accommodate your diet. Little Lafa has multiple options for vegans and all of their food is well prepared, reasonably priced, incredibly savory and they're absolutely happy to make something vegan if it's not already vegan. Very friendly staff too.
It's a wonderful option for lunch or dinner and it's not at all fancy so you can wear your beach clothes here without an issue.
I couldn't rate this place or our multiple experiences here higher during our stay in Honolulu.
